EVENTS AND SIGNATURE PROGRAMMES

In SJI NPCC, our cadets embark on many fun and meaningful events and programmes. Some of these are facilitated by our officers, but more often than not, our cadets and cadet leaders get to exercise their leadership skills and make a difference to the community by initiating these programmes. These are just a few of the programmes we embark on yearly!

Check out the SJI NPCC Instagram page for more details on these events and programmes!

The Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP), as well as the Police Youth Ambassador Programme (PYA), are community advocacy projects conducted by our Secondary 2 and 3 cadets respectively to spread anti-crime awareness to the community.

The objectives of the programmes are to educate cadets to understand that:

- To be socially conscious is to take ownership of educating the community of safety and security, as well as to assist in enforcing those values and beliefs through actions; and

- Taking ownership in improving the safety and security of the community is an important part of being socially conscious - serving the common good.

Here's what the IC of the 2022 PYA project had to say about it:
"PYA was indeed an enriching activity as we were able to converse with members of the public. Moreover, it was very educational as we were able to learn important skills such as confidence and were able to educate the seniors on the importance of scam awareness." – SSGT (NPCC) Mangali Sasikumar Sai Sarvesh

TOTAL DEFENSE

Not only do we spread anti-crime awareness, we also spread awareness about the national defense concept of Total Defense, hence helping Singapore stay safe against both conventional and unconventional threats. In the Bronze and Silver modules, Secondary 1 and 2 cadets respectively are exposed to and engage others using the Guardians of the City card game, which helps students appreciate the vulnerabilities Singapore faces and the crucialness of Total Defense in protecting the nation. In the Gold module, Secondary 3 cadets are expected to apply what they have picked up in Secondary 1 and 2 to teach others in the community, be it juniors, family members, or even complete strangers, and hence spread awareness. Not only is this a service to the community and nation, it also prompts deeper reflection amongst our cadets, allowing them to better appreciate the concept.

Here's what one of our cadets had to say about the Gold module: "Although we had many problems while making the lesson, notably procrastination, we eventually overcame it with thorough preparation of our slides and strong teamwork. In the end, this module proved to be an enriching and meaningful experience." – CPL (NPCC) Lim Jing Yu Nathan

UTC

The Unit Training Camp (UTC) serves as a bonding session for the whole unit. The whole camp is infused with a lot of fun activities. As this is the first camp in SJI NPCC for the Secondary 1s, it serves as a warm welcome to them, while allowing the Secondary 3s to further hone their leadership skills.

Here's what one of our cadets had to say about it:
"The NPCC Unit Training Camp was a fun and rewarding experience for all cadets. Through various activities that gave us the opportunity to bond with our juniors/seniors for the large duration of the camp, it has really opened my eyes to a larger perspective of ways different people around me work. Similarly, it has helped us build on our values of discipline and endurance, especially needed as a NPCC cadet. All in all, UTC was an enriching experience that really gave all of us an opportunity to lead and grow." – SGT (NPCC) Seow Yi Xuan Ethan
